The virtual 16th International Conference on Wirtschaftsinformatik hosted by the University of Duisburg-Essen took place from March 8 to 11, 2021. The Schöller Endowed Chair was also represented with two research contributions. The first research paper titled “The evaluation of the black box problem for AI-based recommendations: An interview-based study” focuses on the adoption of AI-based recommendations. We develop a model based on the theory of planned behavior explaining the relation between the user’s perception of the black box problem and the attitude toward AI-based recommendations distinguishing between a mandatory and voluntary use context. This research paper was nominated for the Best Paper Award. The second research paper titled “A No-Code Platform for Tie Prediction Analysis in Social Media Networks” discusses an alternative approach to predicting network connections in social media such as Twitter and Yammer. Hereby, it focuses in particular on the advantages and disadvantages of this approach in terms of prediction complexity, velocity, and accuracy. Both research papers will be published in the Wirtschaftsinformatik 2021 Proceedings as well as in the Lecture Notes in Information Systems and Organisation.

The International Conference on Wirtschaftsinformatik has been held since 1993 and is the largest information systems conference in the German-speaking region. This year’s motto was “Innovation through Information Systems – WI as a pioneering science”.
